Fibroscan’s ultrasound elastrography

Assessment of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis can be performed using FibroScan, a non-invasive device that measures liver stiffness and evaluates fat accumulation in the liver, without the need for liver biopsy as required in the past.

What is FibroScan?

FibroScan is a non-invasive diagnostic device used to assess liver fibrosis and evaluate the amount of fat accumulation in the liver. It utilizes the CAP (Controlled Attenuation Parameter) program in combination with Vibration Controlled Transient Elastography (VCTE) technology to measure liver stiffness and hepatic fat content.

This examination provides accurate and reliable results, is safe, and does not cause pain. Patients can return home immediately after the procedure. FibroScan also helps reduce the risk of complications associated with liver biopsy.

FibroScan is recommended for individuals who may be at risk of liver disease, including:
  • Those who consume alcohol regularly
  • Individuals who are overweight or obese
  • Patients with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes or high blood lipid levels
Please refrain from eating or drinking for at least 3 hours prior to the examination.
During the examination, the physician places a probe on the skin over the liver area. Patients may feel mild vibrations on the skin, but the procedure is painless. The examination takes only a short time, and no recovery period is required afterward.
