What to Know Before Having a Cesarean Section at Bumrungrad International Hospital

Having a baby will be one of your life’s biggest milestones. Expectant mothers should know that Bumrungrad International Hospital offers several birthing options and respects birth plan preferences. If you’re looking to have a planned Cesarean, learn more about the special Cesarean package we offer and determine if this procedure is right for you.

Why choose a planned Cesarean section?

A planned Cesarean, also known as an elective Cesarean, is booked in advance. Some of the advantages of having a planned Cesarean are being able to choose your baby’s birthday and knowing that you will have time to make preparations before going to the hospital. This makes it easier to pack a labor bag, arrange for maternity leave or family help, and conduct other post-baby errands.

If you choose to schedule a Cesarean section at Bumrungrad International Hospital, we have a team of specialists to guide you through the birth. Our facilities are equipped with four Cesarean section suites and international standard electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) devices to monitor your baby during labor. After the birth, you and your baby will be in a private and comfortable in-patient recovery room.

What is included in the Cesarean package?

The Cesarean OBST 2.2 package is currently priced at 108,900 THB and will be honored from January 1 to December 31, 2015. It covers expenses relating to the labor and surgery rooms; a private recovery room and the neonatal room; obstetrician, pediatrician, surgical assistant, anesthesiologist, and nurses; medical equipment, medical supplies, and medication used during surgery; diagnostic tests for mother and baby.

This package also includes Bumrungrad’s antenatal classes, a Thai birth certificate, a photograph of your new family, and a gift set for your newborn. We also offer a complimentary membership to Bumrungrad’s Baby Club, which is good for the first 12 years of your baby’s life.

This package excludes pre-operative exams, studies, take home medication, or personal expenses.

Recovery and after-care support

You and your baby will continue receiving excellent care and support after your Cesarean delivery. Physicians will attend to you to make sure you are comfortable and provide you with pain relief as needed. A Cesarean section takes a bit longer time to heal and recover from than a traditional vaginal birth, so most mothers will need to stay at our hospital for three to four days post-surgery to allow the stitches to heal.

There is also a breast feeding support team that will help explain the process and provide guidance and encouragement. Particularly for first-time mothers, sharing breast feeding techniques and learning how to encourage your newborn to nurse is a top priority.

In the event your newborn requires intensive care, Bumrungrad International Hospital has a Level III Neonatal ICU that provides 24-hour care for babies and is staffed by a team of US-trained neonatologists and nurses.
