Buddhist monks from all over the world come to study at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, located in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. The university, and temple, accepted the vaccines to help monks increase their immunity to reduce the risk of infection or severe symptoms caused by COVID-19, as they are at heightened risk due to their interaction with people who come to give offerings.

The volunteers also provided instructions to both monks and visitors on how to practice strict safety measures, including wearing masks, washing their hands regularly, refraining from assembling in large groups, and maintaining social distancing. However, monks over 60 years old and those who have one of the “7 chronic diseases” are especially at risk for experiencing severe symptoms of COVID-19.
