At Your Convenience: A Health Check-up in the Afternoon

October 15, 2019
Health check-ups are the best way to detect health issues early and respond to any arising concerns promptly. We all have busy schedules and, unfortunately, we might find it difficult to disrupt our routine.

Typically a health check-up requires you to get up really early in the morning, skip breakfast, and go in on an empty stomach; in fact, you have to have fasted for 12 hours before your appointment. That’s normally the case, but it doesn’t have to be any longer, at least not at Bumrungrad International.

Bumrungrad International has a new approach to the way patients can get their health check-ups. The hospital has added new programs that enable patients to come in later in the day or after having breakfast or lunch.
For many people, coming in early can be an inconvenience, as people have other responsibilities to attend to. Having to wake up earlier than usual for a check-up is not the way many people would want to start their day. The fasting requirement can also be challenging, especially for people on irregular eating schedules, such as those who eat their dinner late at night. This would not be suitable for a 12-hour fasting check-up in the early morning.

The good news is that this can all be avoided now that Bumrungrad has introduced the new Afternoon Check-up programs. The Afternoon Check-up programs include the hospital’s full range of health check-up programs with the addition of non-fasting program options for those who would like to eat before they come in.

Non-Fasting Programs vs. Fasting Programs

A non-fasting Afternoon Check-up means that you can come in for your check-up after breakfast or lunch. Non-fasting programs do not require you to fast before your check-up, as these programs exclude the Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), and Upper Abdominal Ultrasound tests — all of which require an empty stomach.

For those considering the non-fasting programs, be aware that they are not suitable for people suffering from certain health conditions such as fatty liver disease, disorders of the pancreas, or gallstones.

In comparison, the fasting Afternoon Check-up programs do include the Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), and Upper Abdominal Ultrasound tests, so fasting for at least 12 hours prior to your check-up is required.

Additionally, if you select a non-fasting check-up and would still like to get the Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), and Upper Abdominal Ultrasound tests, you are free to come in at a later, more convenient time (when you have fasted) for these additional tests.

Registering for an Afternoon Check-up

The Health Screening Center (Check-up) is open for check-up registration from 06.30 to 15.00 hrs daily. You can schedule an appointment for whichever program you desire, and at the time you prefer — and receive your test results on the same day.
