Good Nutrition is Part of a Good Education

April 19, 2021

The Wellness Community Project aims to improve the quality of life of those living in the Bang Krachao area of Samut Prakan through various community service programs. One important initiative of the Wellness Community Project is the “School Kitchen Project,” which focuses on improving the conditions of school kitchens.

It goes without saying that an education is important for all children. And when it comes to determining what is required for a good education, the curriculum, supplies, and building structures all get adequate attention — and rightfully so. However, when it comes to the importance of good nutrition and well-equipped kitchens to support productive learning, these areas are, unfortunately, too often overlooked.

Three leading organizations came together — M.K. Real Estate Development PCL, Minor International PCL, and the Vitallife Scientific Wellness Center of Bumrungrad International Hospital — for a CSR collaboration. This collaboration was to establish the Wellness Community Project, which aims to improve the quality of life of those living in the Bang Krachao area of Samut Prakan through various community service programs. The Wellness Community Project has been involved with the people of Bang Krachao since 2019.

One special subproject of the Wellness Community Project is the “School Kitchen Project,” which has the goal of improving the conditions of school kitchens in the Bang Krachao area. The project renovates school kitchens to help improve their overall cleanliness and hygiene, as well as to improve workflows for greater efficiency. The project also provides new kitchen supplies and equipment, alongside educating students, teachers, cooks, and kitchen staff on the importance of good nutrition and how it can be obtained for everyone.

The first school to receive assistance from the program was Wat Bang Nam Pheung Nok School in Samut Prakan. Renovation of its kitchen began on August 23rd, 2019. Then, near the end of 2020, a second school kitchen began its renovation — Wat Bang Nam Pheung Nai School in the Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan.

On March 16th, 2021, the newly renovated kitchen of Wat Bang Nam Pheung Nai School was introduced to the students and staff and resumed operation. This occasion was celebrated with a special lunch consisting of healthy food and snacks.
