Care for the Community Around Daowadungsaram Temple

March 29, 2021

On the night of February 21, 2021, a fire broke out in the Sriulai neighborhood, located just behind Daowadungsaram Temple. Relatives, friends, as well as government and private organizations offered heartwarming support to the affected residents, providing food and shelter, while Bumrungrad prepared and distributed 100 sets of medical supplies.

Construction of Wat Daowadungsaram or Daowadungsaram Temple in the Bang Yi Khan subdistrict of the Bang Phlat district began during the reign of Rama 1, in which, at the time, locals referred to the temple as “Wat Klua In.” During the reign of Rama 2, the temple underwent renovation and was renamed “Wat Daodungsasawan,” which translates to “the level of heaven in which Indra resides.” Then, during the reign of Rama 3, the temple underwent renovation once again, and was again renamed, taking its original name, Wat Daowadungsaram, to which it remains till this day.

Surrounding the temple developed an underprivileged community, with many elderly people residing. When the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation found out about this community, they instantly knew they wanted to offer their assistance. Eventually, the foundation, together with the Thomson Foundation, would provide support in the means of primary medical check-ups and medical care at no cost. Since 2012, the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation has been providing services to people of the Bang Yi Khan subdistrict by setting up a mobile clinic once a month in the Wat Daowadungsaram neighborhood. People from five neighboring communities also come to visit the mobile clinic. It’s estimated that 70-90 patients are seen by the Bumrungrad Mobile Clinic per month.
