Bumrungrad International Hospital held a media group interview titled “Beyond Memory Care: More Than Memory. A More Complete Approach to Alzheimer’s Care.”
The event was led by Assoc.Prof. Taveesin Tanprayoon, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, together with Parunyou Julayanont, M.D., a neurologist specializing in cognitive and behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry at the Dementia and Behavioral Neurology Center; Umamon Puangthong, M.D., geriatric psychiatrist and dementia and cognitive specialist; Lily Chaisompong, M.D., a specialist in internal medicine and geriatric medicine; and Morrakot Suwannakarn, M.D., a specialist in internal medicine and clinical nutrition, who shared their expertise and insights. The event also welcomed Khun Polpat Asavaprapha, Creative Director and Founder of Asava, as a special guest. The event was held on October 20, 2026, at Bumrungrad International Hospital.
The event highlighted advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative condition associated with the abnormal accumulation of beta-amyloid protein in the brain, which increases with age. Diagnostic approaches such as amyloid PET scans and blood-based biomarkers can help improve diagnostic accuracy. The discussion also covered anti-amyloid therapy, a treatment option for certain eligible patients in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease that can help slow cognitive decline and preserve the ability to carry out daily activities for as long as possible. Equally important is comprehensive care addressing emotional and behavioral symptoms, physical health, and nutrition—all of which play an important role in the quality of life of patients and their families.
Bumrungrad International Hospital also applies an Integrated Care Model to Alzheimer’s care, bringing together a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, geriatric psychiatrists, geriatricians, clinical nutrition physicians, specialized nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. The team collaboratively develops treatment plans and provides continuous follow-up through a Continuum of Care, spanning diagnosis and treatment through long-term care. Care plans are tailored to each stage of the disease and to each patient’s individual needs, encompassing brain health, physical health, emotional well-being, and nutrition through a Personalized Care approach. The goal is to preserve patients’ functional abilities and quality of life for as long as possible. At the heart of this approach is a partnership with patients and their families throughout the care journey, while empowering families with the knowledge and support needed to provide appropriate care and adapt to changes as the disease progresses.
