A first for Thailand: helping the environment by serving the right food!

M.L. Sirichalerm Svasti (Chef McDang) presents his personally-designed menu at the recent launch of Great Chefs 2011 at Bumrungrad hospital. Now in its 12th year, the popular program invites top Bangkok chefs to design monthly menus for the hospital’s patients and guests. This year’s theme is “Good Food That’s Good for the Earth.” The hospital’s food service provider Sodexo, suppliers, and the star chefs created a value chain based on local produce, sustainable seafood, and other ingredients that are better for the environment. Bumrungrad Hospital Charity Sells Doctors’ Paintings to Raise Money for Children’s Heart Surgeries

Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation and Bumrungrad International, in cooperation with the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand, and the National Health Security Office (NHSO), recently held a charity exhibition—“Phap Silp…from Jai Mor…to Jai Dek” (Paintings…from doctors’ hearts…to children’s hearts)—at the hospital. A group of Bumrungrad physicians and executives who are art lovers created over 180 works of art for the exhibition. All proceeds from the auction and sale of these paintings will be donated to the “Rak Jai Thai” (“Healing Hearts”) program, which provides free heart surgeries for underprivileged Thai children at Bumrungrad.
 
 

Bumrungrad Hospital Celebrates 30 Years of Serving Patients and Community

Khun Chai Sophonpanich, Chairman of Bumrungrad International, and members of the senior management team, recently presided over the hospital’s 30th Anniversary celebration. Bumrungrad provides international hospital standards and quality to over one million Thai and international patients each year. Its social responsibility and education programs help promote health throughout Thailand.
 
 

Bumrungrad International only hospital to win Prime Minister’s Export Award 2010

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva recently presented the Prime Minister’s Export Award 2010 to Mr. Mack Banner, Bumrungrad International’s CEO, as the Best Service Provider in hospital category. Bumrungrad International was the only hospital to win the Prime Minister’s Export Award 2010, which is the Thai government’s highest official award granted annually to outstanding Thai exporters to showcase and acknowledge their world-class quality and standards. Bumrungrad International first won this PM Award in 2002.
 
 

Bumrungrad International donates medicine and medical supplies to aid Pakistani flood victims.

Mr. Ahmed Amjad Ali, Deputy Head of Mission/Alternate Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Embassy of Pakistan, recently received medicine and medical supplies from Mr. Mack Banner, Bumrungrad International’s CEO. A 100,000 baht aid shipment filled with medical supplies and medicines was donated to benefit the flood victims in Pakistan. More than 17 million people were affected by the recent floods which also left at least 6 million homeless.
 
 

German Spine Expert Teams With Bumrungrad Surgeons to Train Doctors in New Procedure

Dr. Sebastian Ruetten (third from left), head of Spine Surgery and Pain Therapy at St. Anna Hospital in Herne, Germany, was in Thailand recently for a lecture and workshop on full-endoscopic spinal surgery. Bumrungrad surgeons Dr. Verapan Kuansongtham and Dr. Sompoch Paiboosirijit, who trained with Dr. Ruetten in Germany, taught the Ruetten technique to 30 doctors from Thailand and overseas. The workshop was co-hosted by Bumrungrad, the Faculty of Science at Mahidol University, and the Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. It will be conducted biannually in both Thailand and Germany. Bumrungrad International medical team to support Habitat for Humanity to build 82 Homes in Chiang Mai

Mr. Mack Banner, Bumrungrad CEO, with a medical team and volunteers to support Habitat for Humanity to build 82 homes for needy Thai families as a present for the King of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in honor of his 82nd birthday. Bumrungrad is the official medical provider for over 3,000 Habitat volunteers from around the world who will join Habitat for Humanity’s 2009 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. The event will be take place in Sansai District of Chiang Mai from 15th to 20th November 2009. Bumrungrad will also donate 82 first aid kits to 82 families as part of this project. Hospital volunteers will also help build a house for one of the families.
 
 

Bumrungrad hospital named to list of “Thailand’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies”

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva recently presented the 2009 “Thailand’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies” award to Dr. Chamaree Chuapetcharasopon, Bumrungrad International’s Medical Director. The competition included 456 publicly-listed companies. Ten finalists were awarded based on return on sales, performance, innovation, internal processes and management. Bumrungrad was named winner in the service category last year. The award adds to a list of honors received by the hospital this year, including “Growth Excellence Awards” by Frost & Sullivan, and a “Best Practice Workplace Award on Labor Relations and Labor Welfare Award 2009” by the Ministry of Labor
