The majority of human tumors stringly over-express the tumor M2 isoform of the glycolytic enzyme pyruvate kinase. This isoenzyme is released from tmor cells and is quantitatively detectable in body fluids. The concentration of type tumor M2 isoenzymed in blood correlateds with the malignancy of the tumors. This new tumor metabolic activity marker is called Tumor M2-PK and is the key regulator of the tumor metabolism.
