Blood samples that have been frozen or are visibly hemolyzed are typically rejected as they can interfere with DNA extraction and quality. Insufficient volume (QNS) combined with hemolysis is a common reason for rejection.

The test is a germline panel that uses a blood or saliva sample to identify genetic variants associated with both common and rare kidney diseases.

Target Scope: It is designed for identifying genetic variants (germline) that cause or contribute to CKD. It may not be suited for diagnosing purely acute or secondary renal conditions not linked to genetic factors. Complex Genetic Regions: Despite using enhanced methods like long-range PCR, analyzing highly complex genes like PKD1 (associated with polycystic kidney disease) can be difficult due to pseudogenes. Variants of Uncertain Significance (VUS): Like all genetic testing, results may yield VUS, where a genetic change is found but its impact on disease is not yet scientifically established. Population Limitations: While it captures a broad range of genetic disorders, it may not cover rare, undiscovered genetic causes of renal dysfunction.Sample Limitations: The test requires a blood sample ; patients who have recently received a blood transfusion might have altered results.
