Neurocritical Care

Neurocritical Care
Emergency cases of neurological diseases and brain trauma are life-threatening. Treating such cases is a challenging task and requires highly experienced and skilled personnel.  With modern equipment and technology, along with multidisciplinary teams engaging in systematic collaboration, Neurocritical Care Unit, Bumrungrad Hospital, provides neurological and cerebral intensive care with the evidence-based best practice most suitable for the patients.  Patients and their families can thus place their trust in the NCCU’s capacity to promptly deliver accurate diagnosis and treatment of the complex diseases and emergencies.

  • Neurologists
  • Vascular interventional  radiologists
  • Neuro and brain surgeons
  • Orthopedic spine surgeons
  • Ear, nose and throat specialists
  • Rehabilitation medicine specialists
  • Nurses trained in neuro critical care

Multidisciplinary teams collaborate, relying on individual professional knowledge and expertise, to create effective personalized treatment plans for a comprehensive range of neurological and brain diseases and conditions, e.g.

  • Intracranial or subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Cerebral aneurysm
  • Cerebrovascular malformations

  • TCD (Transcranial Doppler), detecting blood flow in the basal intracerebral arteries to assess the risks of ischemic stroke and vasospasm
  • EEG (Electroencephalography)
  • TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
  • CT Scan (Computed tomography scan)
  • A biplane operating room is equipped with a Biplane Digital Subtraction Angiographic Machine,  giving high-resolution visualization and allowing surgeons to perform complex vascular surgery effectively.
  • Designed with an emphasis on environmental management for maximum safety, the Neurocritical Care features 10 rooms with individual patient monitors linked to the central monitor so emergency room nurses can keep watch of the critically ill patients at all times.
We realize that every lost minute can lead to a point of no return. The Neurocritical Care Unit thus works closely with the Emergency Department and Outpatient Department, prepared to provide 24/7 care for patients in critical conditions. In an emergency, neurologists and NCCU’s nurses can give initial diagnosis and treatment in the emergency department. If certain additional procedures such as an endovascular clot retrieval are needed, the patient can be conveniently transferred to the biplane operating room near the Neurocritical Care Unit.
