A FAMILY HISTORY OF WOODWORKING

Khun Noi spent much of her childhood admiring the wooden boats that her grandfather used to build, not knowing at the time that she was learning much more than just woodwork. As she grew up and developed her own interests in cooking and craftsmanship, she was confronted with a problem that she knew she needed to fix: the wooden cooking utensils available at the time left a lot to be desired.

DESIGNED FOR BEAUTY AND FUNCTION

Attention to detail is not very common in today’s society, where almost everything is fast and cheap and most of us have lost sight of the time, energy, and skill it takes to take a raw material and shape it into a functional work of art. This is how Noi measures success: when her customers come back and tell her that they love their purchases, or they give her more feedback on how to change something to make it more functional.

FOCUSING ON TODAY, WITH HOPE FOR TOMORROW

Functional design is at the core of Kon Tam Mai, and Noi is proud to work on bringing the joy and heritage of traditional Thai woodwork to the home cook. That’s part of why they continue to return to Bangkok Farmer’s Market – to get real time reaction from her customers. The future of Kon Tam Mai is bright and hopeful because the people who work on this passion project are committed to designing functional products that also serve as pieces of cultural heritage. For Noi, the most important time is now, focusing on the work at hand today, and making sure that what they bring to the public is something that people would be proud to use and display in their homes.
