If a hospital is serious about quality and safety, it seeks independent confirmation.
First Asian hospital to get international accreditation
Organization Accredited by
Joint Commission International
Bumrungrad was the first Asian hospital accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI)
, the international arm of the organization that reviews and accredits American hospitals. Their checklist includes over 350 standards, for everything from surgical hygiene and anesthesia procedures to the systems in place to credential medical staff and nurses. JCI
sends a team to re-review hospitals at 3-year intervals. Bumrungrad was first accredited in 2002, re-accredited in 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014. Click here to see JCIA Certificate.

Chronic Kidney Disease
Program Stage I to IV
Bumrungrad received recertification for treating strokes (from November 2015 to November 2018), diabetes (from March 2013 to February 2016) and kidney diseases (from February 2013 to February 2016) from the Joint Commission International (JCI) – the leading international evaluator of hospital quality. reviewers surveyed every facet of care for the hospital’s stroke and heart attack patients, as well as patients with diabetes or kidney diseases. This review includes the inspection of emergency measures, rapid imaging and diagnosis, experienced specialists, and effective long-term treatment. JCI
criteria are based on international, best-practice clinical guidelines. Click here to submit your concerns about patient safety or quality of care
Regular, independent reviews to assure patient safety
Thailand also has its own Hospital Accreditation program conducted by the Institute of Hospital Quality Improvement & Accreditation. Bumrungrad was the first hospital in the country to be accredited by this program in 1999 and was reaccredited in triennial reviews in 2002, 2005, 2009 and 2012. The Thai accreditation process is demanding: Bumrungrad is one of only 14 private hospitals in Bangkok (out of over 100) to earn it.
