โรคความดันโลหิตสูงจัดเป็นปัญหาทางสาธารณสุขที่สำคัญของประเทศไทยและทั่วโลก จากรายงานขององค์การอนามัยโลกเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2554 พบว่าทั่วโลกมีผู้ที่มีความดันโลหิตสูงมากถึงพันล้านคน โดยประชากรวัยผู้ใหญ่ทั่วโลก 1 คนใน 3 คนมีภาวะความดันโลหิตสูง นอกจากนี้ยังคาดการณ์อีกด้วยว่าในปี พ.ศ.2568 (ค.ศ.2025) จำนวนผู้ป่วยโรคความดันโลหิตสูงในวัยผู้ใหญ่จะเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 1.56 พันล้านคน
