The Nervous System

The brain and nervous system are responsible for our movement, behavior, learning, emotions, heart rate, and body temperature, etc. Therefore, if the nervous system suffers an injury or becomes diseased, it can cause serious, permanent, and even life-threatening problems.

The nervous system is an extremely complex system. When a patient is afflicted with serious medical conditions such as stroke, hemorrhage, brain tumor, dementia, or Parkinson's disease, experienced, highly skilled medical personnel are required for treatment.

The Neuroscience Center at Bumrungrad International Hospital is comprised of an expert team of neurology specialists who work together to treat patients with a variety of neurological disorders, from general to serious and complex disorders. Specialists provide personalized care, adopting the most appropriate treatments for each patient based on their knowledge and experience (evidence based best practice). The center also utilizes modern medical technology and equipment to help ensure accuracy, safety, and the achievement of the best treatment results.

Treatment of a Nervous System Disorder

Neurological disorders are preventable or are able to be prevented from becoming severe if they are accurately diagnosed and proper treatment is received.

Expert specialists at the Neuroscience Center are always prepared to provide quality treatment.

Every second counts when dealing with a neurological emergency. Each lost minute can lead to drastic consequences.

The Neuroscience Center works closely with the Emergency Department and outpatient departments to provide immediate medical assistance to patients in critical situations 24 hours a day.

Teams work closely together and include patients’ families in the decision making process. In an emergency situation, neurology specialists including neurologists, neurosurgeons, and specialist nurses trained in neurocritical care at the Emergency Center will provide an initial diagnosis and the required immediate treatment. If the patient is in need of immediate neurosurgery, the team will safely transport the patient to the operating suite adjacent to the Neurocritical Care Unit. 

Modern Medical Technology and Equipment

  • Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound to assess the risk of stroke
  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Computed tomography scan (CT scan)

Operating Suites and Neurocritical Care Unit

  • Biplane operating room. This special operating room is equipped with 2 cameras, one on each side of the patient, to capture real-time detailed images during the procedure. This technique is highly useful in complex cases.
  • Neurocritical Care Unit. This was designed with maximum patient safety in mind. It consists of 10 rooms with a patient monitoring system so that staff can monitor patients at all times.

The Neurology Team at the Neuroscience Center at Bumrungrad International Hospital consists of a team of specialists from all branches of neurology. Our trained expert specialists are able provide diagnoses and treatments for general and complex neurological disorders.
