German spine expert joins Bumrungrad medical team for specialized training Thirty doctors from Thailand and overseas recently attended a lecture and workshop on full-endoscopic spinal surgery.

The event featured Dr. Sebastian Ruetten, Head of Spine Surgery and Pain Therapy at St. Anna Hospital in Herne, Germany along with two Bumrungrad surgeons – Dr. Verapan Kuansongtham and Dr. Sompoch Paiboosirijit – who previously trained with Dr. Ruetten in Germany. Together they provided participants with instruction on the Ruetten technique. Bumrungrad International co-hosted the event with the Faculty of Science at Mahidol University, and the Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. Future trainings will be conducted twice annually in both Thailand and Germany.
 

Big turnout for Bumrungrad’s first "Walk Rally for Health”

More than 300 people took part in the first-ever “Walk Rally for Health” organized by Bumrungrad International as part of its continuing public education campaign. Held at Bangkok’s Lumpini Park, the event featured eight different health activity and education stations, including screenings for  blood pressure, blood sugar level, body fat composition, and bone density. Hospital specialists also led a seminar on “Understanding chronic diseases in the elderly.”
 

Bumrungrad Rak Jai Thai continues helping needy heart patients

Congenital heart defects and valvular heart disease are not easy to fix, especially for  those who lack access to care or lack the financial means to pay for much-needed treatments. In 2004, the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation joined forces with the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand and Thailand’s Health Security Office to launch “Bumrungrad Rak Jai Thai,” offering no-cost heart surgeries and medical care to needy children and adults throughout Thailand. Bumrungrad doctors and medical staff volunteer their time and supplies in support of this worthwhile cause.

By the end of June 2010, program volunteers had performed 193 free surgeries; the cost for each equivalent operation would typically cost about Baht 402,000 (US$ 12,102). The program’s goal is to donate surgeries to 500 needy patients. Donations from the public are welcomed and can be made by the following:
