The revolutionary femtosecond laser introduced new and more accurate methods to cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation that result in clearer vision and shortened recovery times.

With the traditional method of cataract surgery, a small surgical tool vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency is used to emulsify and remove the cataract lens before the intraocular lens can be implanted. However, this method can result in some tissue damage and leave the intraocular lens imperfectly aligned.

In the latest technological advancement in cataract surgery, a femtosecond laser is used to ensure more accurate surgery and enhanced safety.

Femtosecond Laser Surgery System
Femtosecond laser technology is used as part of a computer controlled surgical system. Optical Coherence Tomography is used to perform a scan which generates high resolution 3D images of the eye. Data from the images are measured and calculated to develop a detailed treatment plan. Based on this information, a more accurate dissection can be made, resulting in a safer and more precise outcome.
  • The first step is to make a precise incision, through which an ultrasonic instrument can be inserted to remove the cataract lens.
  • The femtosecond laser is used to break the cataract lens into small pieces ready for removal.
  • The creation of a precise and well-centered incision enables accurate positioning of the intraocular lens, thus increasing its efficiency.
  • Enables accurate dissection, enhances safety, minimizes tissue damage, and reduces recovery time.
  • Results in clearer vision by ensuring that the intraocular lens is implanted in exactly the right position.
  • Reduces the risk of astigmatism after surgery.
