Preparing for Hip resurfacing Surgery
Before the operation
Please inform the doctor or hospital staff of your current medications and treatments, if any. Aspirin or aspirin-containing medicines such as Motrin, Advil, Plavix and Warfarin could result in excessive bleeding. The patient should stop taking such medicines for at least one week before the scheduled surgery.
Some dietary supplements, herbs, or herbal medications may cause similar problems. Please inform the doctor or hospital staff in advance or before your trip.
Please arrive at the hospital 3 days before the anticipated operation. You are required to visit a General Practitioner and your Orthopaedic Surgeon for a Pre-operative Assessment and Pre-operative Medical Clearance which include:
- Blood Chemistry: CBC, Creatinine, FPG (Fasting Plasma Glucose), PT (Prothombin Time) and PTT (Partial Thromboplastin Time)
- Chest X-ray(s)
For females over 50 and males over 60 years old, a Bone Mineral Density test is also required.
1. If you have the tests done before your arrival, they must be within 30 days prior to surgery (3 months for Chest X-rays). Bumrungrad may still charge for reviewing the reports and examinations to give pre-operative medical clearance.
2. The cost does not include other medical consultations/tests ordered for patients over 60 years old, or assessment of complications such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac problems and other chronic diseases for pre-operative clearance purposes.
Planning your trip
Please plan for a total of 17 days stay in Bangkok, which includes the 3 days before surgery for medical clearance, about 7 days in the hospital, and 7 days for local recovery and follow-up visits, before flying home for additional recuperation.
