How Can I Pay for Medical Treatment at Thailand's Bumrungrad International Hospital?

February 19, 2015

At Bumrungrad International Hospital, we provide medical treatment for Thai citizens, international visitors, expats, and even expats of other countries. Patients who come to our hospital, whether for intentionally scheduled visits or accidental visits, have several excellent options to pay for their medical services. These include cash, wire transfer, credit card, insurance, and specially priced packages and promotions.

Cash and Wire Transfer

Bumrungrad International Hospital accepts cash payments in the local currency, Thai baht (THB). Although we do not accept foreign currency as payment, we do offer onsite currency exchange services. Conversion rate fees will apply. Cash payments of any amount (no limit) will be accepted by our Cashier’s Department.

You can access your cash as Thai baht by using a Thai ATM and withdrawing an amount from your non-Thai bank account. Foreign ATM fees will apply and there are maximum withdraw limits. You can also access your cash by making an international money transfer from your non-Thai bank to a Thai bank and then withdrawing Thai baht. This will incur a money transfer fee.

Bumrungrad International Hospital accepts international wire transfers using Western Union directly to our accounts with Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn Bank. Money transfers must be completed five business days in advance to verify receipt of payment.

Checks and traveler’s checks are not accepted.

Credit Cards

Major credit cards, including VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club International, JCB and China UnionPay (CUP) are accepted at Bumrungrad International Hospital.

Keep in mind that using a foreign credit card will incur a foreign transaction fee as per your credit card’s policy.  Additionally, it is important to contact your credit card company and let them know of your upcoming international travel to prevent accidental declined purchases.

Thai debit cards are accepted. Non-Thai debit cards are not accepted unless they meet the following three requirements: are either Visa or Mastercard, used with Bumrungrad’s secure online payment system, and have adequate funding. The online payment webpage link can be requested from Bumrungrad’s email response team at [email protected].

Insurance Providers

Bumrungrad accepts an extensive list of insurance providers.  This complete list includes companies that take part in direct billing and those who do not. We accept international (non-Thai subsidiary) direct billing contracts, Thailand company direct billing contracts, and assistance company contracts.

Every insurance plan, local or international, is different. Before traveling, please check with your specific insurance plan regarding the details on your benefits, what procedures are covered, and if they allow direct billing. Additionally, there may be differences in you plan’s coverage if you receive an inpatient or outpatient procedure.

We accept two international health insurance companies, of Global Protective Solutions and Seven Corners, which offer privileged rates for patients specifically traveling to Bumrungrad International Hospital for the explicit purpose of doing a medical procedure overseas.
