DNA Scientific Wellness Screening: Answers to Your Questions

Genetics and DNA play an important role in your health, directly impacting how long and how well you live. Many serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes have genetic components.  What if you could know your personal genetic risk?

As healthcare has evolved from focusing on the management of disease to the prevention of disease, DNA testing is now widely used to determine an individual’s risk of developing specific diseases. The VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center recently introduced its DNA Scientific Wellness Screening, a DNA test which assesses risks for priority health areas that include bone health, brain health, toxicity, gluten intolerance, heart health, immune health, lactose intolerance, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and Vitamin D deficiency. For females, hormonal imbalance risks are also assessed.

If, for example, the test indicates a predisposition to type 2 diabetes, what action can be taken? You and your physician will partner to look at factors such as weight, eating habits, and exercise frequency to determine optimal behaviors and goals. We can also make recommendations for increasing the frequency of relevant screenings such as A1C or oral glucose tolerance testing so that any indications of declining health are noted as soon as possible.

Wouldn’t you want to know?

Here are answers to the most common questions people have about the test.

Who should take this test?  Any adult, male or female, age 20 and above who wants to optimize their health by knowing their personal genetic risk of disease.  With that knowledge, action can be taken to prevent the onset of disease.

What will the test tell me? The test report provides an analysis indicating whether there is a predisposition to disease across the 11 priority areas, assessing each as either low priority, moderate priority, or high priority. Even though you may have a higher likelihood for a particular disease, that does not mean you are destined to have that disease. Instead, it indicates a mutation or defect in a gene that could potentially be activated by diet, lifestyle factors, or environmental exposure.

Will this test identify disease?  No, the Scientific DNA Wellness Screening is not used to diagnose disease.

How is the test conducted?  The Scientific DNA Wellness Screening is non-invasive and simply requires three saliva samples. The collected sample is taken directly to VitalLife’s on-site laboratory where the DNA is extracted and the analysis is carried out.

What preparation is required? You only need to fast for at least 30 minutes prior to giving the saliva sample.

How long will it take to receive results?  The DNA test results are ready in 1 month. Because the results are analyzed by an in-house laboratory, quality control is maintained and results are rendered more quickly.

How will I receive my results? After about a month, you will receive an email with the results attached. The next step would be to schedule an appointment with a physician to discuss the results. This appointment should last no more than 40 minutes.

Is the follow-up appointment included in the cost of the test? Yes, it is.

Will results change as I age?  Our DNA remains the same throughout our lifetime, so the test needs only be taken once. There is a significant advantage to taking the test earlier in life; future health concerns can be prioritized and lifestyle action steps can be taken to mitigate risks.

Will my information remain private?  VitalLife in-house laboratories maintain the strictest confidentiality levels. No information is ever released or sold.

How do I get the test? First, schedule an appointment for the Scientific DNA Wellness Screening at VitalLife either by email [email protected] or by telephone at +66 2066 8899.  Be sure to fast for 30 minutes prior to the appointment, which should take no more than 30 minutes.
