Laser Hair Removal

At the Dermatology and Skin Aesthetics Center at Bumrungrad International, we are experts in hair removal.  You will always be treated by a doctor, ensuring the best in hair removal treatment.  We use only FDA approved lasers, such as the GentleYAG and Soprano, which removes your unwanted hair less painfully, and more successfully, than electrolysis.

How Laser Hair Removal Works
Light emitted by the laser is absorbed by the pigment (color) located in the hair follicle, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s growth. These lasers tend to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase and therefore more than one treatment may be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase.

Laser treatment itself may cause a slight tingling sensation. Immediate after-effects may include redness and swelling, which disappear in a short time. Procedure is then repeated again at a minimum of every 4-8 weeks depending on the individual’s hair growth rate.
A clinical study done at the Department of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School, USA has shown that:
  • 100% of the patients experience temporary hair loss for a period of at least three months following one laser treatment.
  • 89% of the patients had long-term hair loss at one-year follow-up.
  • Of the 11% of the patients who did not have long-term hair loss, most had blond hair. Because blond hair contained less melanin than darker hair, and the laser targets pigment, the laser is less effective overall.
  • Side effects are very rare. Most common side effects are transient pigment changes which usually occurred in the darker skin types or in patients who had tans at the time of treatment.
