Currently, the Director of the BICRC, Prof. Dwip Kitayaporn, MD, who took up the post in 2005, reports to the Medical Director of BI, Dr. Num Tanthuwanit, and serves as Secretary to the BI Institutional Review Board (BI/IRB), according to the Hospital By-laws, facilitating liaison between the two entities. Dedicated registered nurses are assigned exclusively to the BICRC to participate as BICRC team-members in protocol management, patient documentation, specimen collection, and patient assessment. These processes enable our physician investigators to spend more time with their patients/volunteers, while BICRC staff manage the substantial and detailed documentation required of each protocol. All BICRC staff undergo training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and their proficiencies are assessed and updated regularly. BICRC nursing staff also coordinate patient flow sheets, informed consent, patient education materials, and the conduct of studies in conformity with ICH/GCP standard guidelines. In the implementation of protocols and education of hospital staff for specific studies, these nurses are supported by nursing management at Bumrungrad International. For retrospective studies, they also extract data from eligible medical records, in consultation and coordination with study investigators.
