General Guidelines for Surgery for International Patients

Some medications and supplements must be stopped at least 7 days prior to your surgery such as Vitamin E, Ginko, and Anti-Coagulants (such as Warfarin, Plavix, Aspirin or Aspirin-containing medications). Therefore, if you take any of these regularly, it is vital that you consult your primary physician in your present country to ensure that you are safe to temporarily stop these medication(s) and are safe to travel.

For plastic surgery, these medications should be stopped at least 4 weeks prior to undergoing an operation.

To help decrease the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), it is recommended that patients wear Anti Embolism Stockings (10-20 mmHg),drink plenty of fluids, and try to move around frequently when flying to Bangkok.
Under Thai law, if you are under 20 yrs. old, a parent is required to be present to sign the consent form for operation.
Once in Bumrungrad, all patients must be cleared for surgery by appropriate pre-surgery screening in accordance with your doctor's instructions and our Patient Safety requirements.
For your safety, it is very important to report any known underlying medical conditions that you have before traveling to Bumrungrad. Please also be prepared to provide a complete list of all medications you are taking and allergies to drugs or other substances.
Please bring a friend or relative to accompany you on the way home after surgery.
If you would like a copy of your medical record, please notify your doctor or nurse at least 2 days in advance so that we can prepare this information for you before you travel home.
Additional Guidelines Specific to Plastic Surgery:

Do not smoke or ingest nicotine for four weeks before and after surgery as smoking can delay healing. Smoking may also cause complications such as skin loss and scarring.
Additionally, Nicorette gum and nicotine patches cannot be used as they release a harmful vasoconstrictor which can interfere with normal blood flow.
Avoid dietary supplements, herbs, and mixing herbal medications for at least four weeks before surgery.
If you are taking Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) for acne, stop the medication for at least 12 to 18 months prior to surgery as it may affect wound healing and could result in scarring.
