The Bumrungrad International Clinical Research Center (BICRC) is
a clinical research facility located in downtown Bangkok, Thailand on the grounds
of Bumrungrad International.The goal of the BICRC is to
provide a quality facility based upon international standards for the conduct of patient-oriented research to translate basic scientific knowledge into a better understanding and treatment of human diseases. Its jurisdiction covers pharmaceutical industry clinical trials, and in-house biomedical and social science research carried out by the Hospital staff and physicians. The BICRC is a part of Bumrungrad Hospital Public Company Limited. It was established in 2001 with an aim to support clinical research in Thailand by following the International Conference on Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use, Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) international guidelines, and local regulations. Funding for the BICRC comes from research grants, the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation, private individual and corporate donations and from Bumrungrad International. The office is located on the 9th floor of the Bumrungrad Hospital Residence Building. Bumrungrad International, Bangkok is the largest private hospital in Southeast Asia with 466 acute beds. It is also the largest private clinic in the region with an average capacity of 3,500 patients per day and international standard diagnostic and therapeutic facilities housed in about 1.15 million square feet buildings in downtown Bangkok, Thailand. |

Founded in 1980, the hospital was first listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand
in 1989 and its world-standard replacement facility was opened in 1997. Its approximately
1,100 physicians and dentists treat over one million patients annually including
more than 400,000 international and expatriate patients coming for tertiary medical
care from over 190 countries and states throughout the world. The hospital is managed by an American-led international management team and is the first hospital in Asia to earn Thai Hospital Accreditation, in 1999 and is re-accredited in triennial reviews. It is also the first hospital in Asia to be awarded international accreditation in 2002 by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA, http://www.jcrinc.com), which is the international arm of the US-based Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO, http://www.jointcommission.org/) and has continually received re-accreditation triennially. Today, more than 17,000 health care providers use Joint Commission standards to guide how they administer care and continuously improve (http://www.jointcommission.org/AboutUs/Fact_Sheets/facts_jc_acrr_cert.htm). The Hospital also receives the JCI special distinction for stroke and acute myocardial infarction programs.
