Bumrungrad International became the first hospital in Thailand to offer Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). IGRT is a new technology for radiotherapy treatment of cancer that was first introduced in Europe.

IGRT is the most accurate method for targeting radiation to the cancer tumor. Imaging technology is used to identify the exact location of a tumor prior to treatment, but during the administration of treatment the tumor can move slightly, for example as the patient breathes.

IGRT “locks” the radiation on target, reducing the risk of damaging healthy tissue surrounding the tumor, and allowing more concentrated dosages of radiation to destroy the cancer.

In our Breast Care Center we combine digital mammography and computer aided detection (CAD) to provide the most accurate screening system available. Digital mammography is a more technologically advanced form of mammography. It is quicker, more comfortable and gives the doctor better images with higher resolution than traditional X-ray based mammography.

The R2 CAD ImageChecker system was originally approved in the United States by the FDA to assist radiologists in minimizing false negative readings in the detection of breast cancer. CAD is used by increasing numbers of radiologists as "a second pair of eyes" when reading a mammogram. The computer does not make the diagnosis, but calls the radiologist’s attention to areas that deserve attention, to make sure they are not missed.

Clinical studies show 6-20% higher cancer detection rates for CAD digital mammography. The system also reduces the incidence of false positives.

Bumrungrad International uses the latest picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) to provide the best in digital imaging. No longer will you see an X-Ray film on a wall-mounted light box the way they still do it on television.

PACS enables images such as x-rays and scans to be stored electronically on our network, so that our doctors and radiologists can access an image and compare it with previous images, from anywhere in the hospital. This is particularly useful in an hospital such as Bumrungrad, where doctors representing different specialties often consult one another on complicated cases.

Ultrasound is the familiar device that allows you to see your baby during pregnancy. In 2D ultrasound, a flat image of the baby is produced. In 3D ultrasound, the technique collects images of our baby and gives them depth for a 3 dimensional effect.

At Bumrungrad International, we use the latest in 4D technology. The ultrasound creates a moving, life-like picture by taking rapid images with the speed of 25 scans per second. The result: Live Action ultrasound images of your baby. 4-D will even allow you to see your baby when it yawns or opens its eyes in the womb.

No wonder 4D ultrasound is so popular with parents-to-be. But it is also a serious diagnostic tool for doctors assessing the health and position of the fetus.

Bumrungrad International has introduced Wi-Fi, providing 300 access points to give patients and guests with capable devices internet access from anywhere in the hospital. The Wi-Fi network – one of the largest in Thailand – uses state-of-the-art technology from Motorola to assure both reliability and security.

Wi-Fi users can connect in minutes, the same way they do in most Wi-Fi locations around the world. The network is one of our many investments in technology to help serve our 1.2 million patients each year. The wireless network serves not only patients and visitors, but also doctors and staff. Patients can even rent laptop computers to stay in touch with friends and caregivers back home.

Bumrungrad received the 2008 “Best Wireless Project South East Asia” award from Motorola's Enterprise Mobility Business. The project was the largest single campus indoor wireless project that was deployed by any of Motorola’s customers in 2008.
